WIC is otherwise known as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. WIC is a federal program and it provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, and referrals to health and other social services to participants at no charge. WIC serves low-income pregnant, post-partum and breastfeeding women, and infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk.
This map represents total WIC participation rates, and these figures are 12-month averages, for years 1999 to 2008.
